“The Star-Spangled Banner and “God Bless America” have never been included in any of the four previous 20th century Methodist hymnals. Reasons for the omission can now only be speculative, but in the case of the national anthem they include the following:
The national anthem is taught to every school child and is sung so often in civic events that there is little need to include it.
It is not a hymn or sacred song — it is a recounting through music of a military battle.
The national anthem is readily available in individual sheets and many, many collections.
The national anthem is rarely sung or used in churches or worship.
The hymnal is a collection for use by the global church, not just the USA. “

Please forgive my continuing tech (& time) dysfunction!  The “current”
plan is to meet 2x/month Tuesdays @ 12:30-1:45 @ FRUMC [1 West Main
Street in Front Royal].  I am trying to arrange “coverage” for days I
have conflicts . . .  “We” are still trying to “DISCERN” the best
(effective but not too time-consuming) methods for communication. :-\

Initially:  I’ll try to be available MOST Tuesdays (to accommodate
divergent schedules/commitments).  “Eventually” we can work on duets /
trios / quartets to maximize flexibility.

We are meeting in the “LFK Classroom” (best time(s) to talk this
weekend?).  Currently “we” would like to have selections for THREE
seasons.
1. Spring (Easter)
2. Summer (Patriotic)
3. Fall (Thanksgiving/Christmas)
Please think about your three favorite “HYMNS” for each season (plus
three “non-seasonal”).
We distributed & reviewed some music from “In the Presence of Jehovah”
[Easter (Russell Mauldin)].

Please join us next/this Tuesday (4/15); we’ll discuss options for 4/22
(I will be taking a friend to a pre-arranged appointment).
